Macbeth
Music Director, Co-Composer
In my first year at the National Theatre I had the chance to collaborate with the composer Orlando Gough, the instrument maker Simon Allen, the horn player Letty Stott, and the clarinettist Sarah Homer, on creating an innovative score for the Scottish play.
In an attempt to match the post-apocalyptic setting of this version of the play, directed by Rufus Norris in the Olivier Theatre, we used the materials of the stage design by Rae Smith to create new instruments that would resonate with the visual world in an improvised scenario.
The documentary below provides a rare insight into the making of a play score.
